Wow! 1,250 “active crowdfunding platforms” (CFP) in the world today! In 2009, Kickstarter kickstarted the industry, and just last year reached 1 billion in deal flow. Just six (6) years since 2009, and the industry has blown up with all types of CFP’s covering social causes, technological discoveries, films, books, and other doo-dads.
Crowdfunding is a mechanism by which Your Friends, Family and Business Associates can support your project from anywhere in the world. Yes, folks, it starts with your address book and the Crowd funding portal you use is able to leverage your address book to continue to grow and prosper, even if you don’t reach your goal they have your network.
Here at CulturalGrassroots.com, we are registering a critical mass of Our Crowd into a Funding Juggernaut that Can Fund the Images and Stories We Want to See, and at the same time creating an Infrastructure of Self-sufficiency capable of Funding the Goods, Services and Ideas coming from Our creators and entrepreneurs in the first instance, thereby creating an umbilical cord connection between Our Best and Brightest and Our Body Politic, exponentially expanding your network of like-minded people more likely to support projects that are specific to our history and ambition.
I believe it was Marcus Garvey that said it would take a catastrophe before Black people united in the West to pursue a self-help agenda without apologies. Well, don’t look now, but catastrophe is in the air, a phenomena of bad outcomes from Ferguson, MO and South Carolina to Haiti/Dominican Republic, Nigeria and South Africa, has lately wafted over the Black Body Politic like a never-ending thunderstorm. At the heart of this litany of bad outcomes, I believe, is Our continued Terminal Dependency on the White Western World. Crowdfunding has the potential, in a very strategic way, to put us on the road to ending our Terminal Dependency.
As the report linked to this article demonstrates, capable and empowered people are turning to crowdfunding to replace the Banksters and the Too Big to Fail Felons that dominate money and opportunity. The only thing standing in the way of the Black Body Politic from asserting its self-sufficiency, is Fear! The fear of alienating the WWW, which, unfortunately, is the sole source of Black employment, such as it is.
Of course, these are my own thoughts and observations. But what else can explain the complete lack of interest in this game-changing mechanism from the Black Body Politic, starting with those that consider themselves “thought leaders”, you know, the bloggers, writers, web-mags, etc., which have failed to analyze from Our perspective, one of the most important financial mechanisms ever available to regular people?
Those of you that have already registered with CulturalGrassroots.com, thank you! But your work is not done. Make Black Crowdfunding part of your everyday conversation on social media, with friends and family, and in your business life. There will come a time, I believe, when the larger “we” will ask the question, “How come we don’t have a crowdfunding portal?” As a member of CulturalGrassroots.com, you have got the Answer!
